I would think if it was broke you'd be able to feel if it was or at least see it? Just a suggestion. I know it would hurt here and there if I pressed on my arm right over where it was but not broken. I guess anything is possble. I just thought I'd suggest at least feeling it first or if you are really worried I'd of course check with a doctor. Good luck.
Hi Im 22 and I just got on the nexplanon today, but I was on depo provera for the past 3 years. Anyways I've noticed you've been on the nexplanon for the full term and so I was wondering if you have any information or advice you can give me about it. Please and thank you? Nexplanon was my first ever birth control at 33 years old. Honestly I had a lot of not so good side effects from it. I thought it would be perfect for me and unfortunately even though I kept it for the full amount of time it wasn't the best.
At first I didn't have a period for a full year which was awesome. I didn't ask the doc to try to regulate the periods until it was almost time to get it out and that didn't work for me either.
In incredibly rare cases, some women will become pregnant while using the birth control implant. For pregnancies that occur while using an implant, there is a slightly higher risk than normal that the pregnancy will become ectopic. An ectopic pregnancy is one in which the fertilized egg implants into the fallopian tube instead of the uterus; as the egg grows, it threatens the structure of the fallopian tube.
People who have a history of breast cancer or are at high risk of breast cancer should not use the birth control implant. You may be at high risk of breast cancer if women in your family tend to develop it — ask your doctor. Some breast cancers are sensitive to the hormones in the implant. Plus, one in three women who use the birth control implant will stop getting a period within one year of having the implant inserted. However, in contrast to birth control pills, the implant cannot be used to regulate periods.
It can cause no periods, regular periods, or extra spotting. These bleeding irregularities do not normalize over time but can remain random and unpredictable throughout the three years of use. That being said, the bleeding is not heavy and the median number of bleeding-spotting days is slightly lower than women experiencing natural menstrual cycles.
A favorable bleeding pattern within the first three months of use may predict a continued favorable pattern during the remainder of use. Nexplanon may be less effective if you are overweight. This is because the amount of hormone actively circulating in the blood will be lower in women with a high body mass index BMI compared to those with a normal BMI.
To this end, some healthcare providers will recommend replacement between the second and third years in women with a higher body weight, rather than waiting until the end of the third year. There are many lifestyle and health benefits to consider when deciding to use Nexplanon. In addition, Nexplanon may be a good option for you if you don't want to get pregnant now, but want flexibility with family planning after ending birth control use. Unlike some forms of hormonal contraception, fertility returns quickly once you stop using Nexplanon, often within 14 days.
By comparison, it may take up to a year for fertility to return after stopping Depo-Provera , another long-term contraceptive method. The most common side effect of Nexplanon is irregular menstrual bleeding, including changes in frequency, intensity, or duration of bleeding. About 1 in 5 people will not have a period at all when using Nexplanon. The bleeding pattern you experience during the first three months of having Nexplanon implanted is generally a good indication of what to expect in the months thereafter.
Other less common side effects have also been reported, including increased appetite, mood swings, decreased sex drive, dizziness, nausea, hot flashes, hair loss, fatigue, and increased blood pressure. Serious problems with Nexplanon are rare but most often occur if the rod is placed incorrectly. If Nexplanon is inserted too deeply, nerve or vascular injury may occur.
This can lead to the development of blood clots hematomas or the abnormal firing of peripheral nerve cells paresthesia.
Both can become serious if left untreated. Call your healthcare provider if you experience signs of an implantation injury, including persistent pain, numbness, tingling, confusion, vomiting, lethargy, scarring, or disfiguring bruising. Removal complications can also occur if the rod was improperly placed.
In some cases, the rod can migrate from its original position and require costly surgical extraction. The incorrect placement of the rod can also prevent the progestin from releasing properly. Not only would this increase the risk of pregnancy, but there would also be a greater likelihood of an ectopic tubal pregnancy. Nexplanon is a safe birth control option for most healthy people, but it is not for everyone.
